On the sewing machine

I spend a few hours on the sewing machine last night and this evening.  I found this super cute notepad cover and just wanted to see if I could make it.  Turns out that yes I could.  I found it here http://thecottagehome.blogspot.com/2011/06/fabric-portfolio-and-notepad-holder.html This is one of the blogs I read every single day, I love the cottage mama.  Her blog is full of wonderful things to make. Please check out her site.  For all the exact directions please click the link above, she gives very easy to follow instructions.                                                   Here is how I started: I believe the hardest part of this pattern was picking out which colors to use where.  It calls for 5 different coordinating fabrics, I am sure that you can use just one if you'd like or any variation. Whatever works for you. The next part...start stitching.  I love sitting up at the sewing machine at night after everyone else has gone to bed.  This is my quiet time, time that I don&

Vandalism??

Well I guess you can call it that.  there was no real damages though so maybe it isn't really vandalism after all.  This is what happens when Stephanee gets bored and is looking for something to do.  Be glad we didn't do her idea.  Sitting at dinner she shows a picture of a car completely surrounded by shopping carts, no not just a few...all the carts available I'd guess.  Now I'm all about a prank on someone I know, but a stranger.  well I couldn't be that mean.  So we waved off that idea when my oldest girl...yes the sweet innocent one.  says hey how bout we post it note someones car...someone else says yea how bout Jasons truck and well it was a plan at that point and had to be played out. (poor Jason doesn't stand a chance with Stephanee & I both in his life)    ;-) the picture above is 2400 post it notes all lovingly suck to his truck.  if u look at it right it seems as if his truck has scales like a fish. (Hehe)  while the original plan was to post t

Not an ice cream maker??

Not the best idea  :) Really I know that the very old butter churn that my dear mother-in-law gave me is not an ice cream maker...but why the heck not?  I am sure that a real ice cream maker is just a chamber for the milk sugar egg and such with an empty space for the ice and ice cream salt so that the ice makes the milk mix super cold yadda...yadda...yadda.  So why could this not work?  I do not have an answer for why it wont work, but trust me when I say it is not the best idea I came up with, just go get a store bought model or just buy ice cream from the store.  Or you can do what I did...when I got tired of turning the churn in the ice and my hands were nearing frost bite (not really, but I don't like for my hands to be cold)  I just put the mixture into a large bowl and stuffed it in the freezer until this evening.  It worked.  Not when I wanted it to but it eventually made ice cream.  We started with making our own root beer.  McCormick sells all kinds of extract and

How did you know how to do that?

yummo...Vanilla Dr Pepper So it's Thursday night at the Corley house and dad is gone to the fire department.  This happens every week and us girls are always looking for something to fill our evening.  This week was no different except for the fact that momma hasn't been feeling the best and just wants to stay in tonight and not go shopping or visiting or anything really.  My girls hate it when mom is in this kind of stay home mood.  I was hoping to cheer them up a bit. So we make popcorn (using the method from a few post ago)  We love popcorn, everyone likes to put their own topping on which makes it fun.  But we needed something icy cold and yummy to wash down all the salty popcorn.  So I got out the vanilla extract and added a bit to our Dr pepper.  Yep that's right mom knows how to make vanilla Dr Pepper just like at Sonic and QT?    They thought this was great.  We had a good evening in watching a movie while having popcorn and soda.   I went to the store today to

Must try stain remover!

AMAZING Stain remover!!  Ok here it is...the best stain remover ever, I had seen this a time of two over on pinterest but never really thought about trying it until Caprice and I had talked about it a bit last week.  She said it worked great and that the stain she tried it on had not worked its way back to the surface(crazy how that it does that sometimes)  Any way I had to try it.  All you have to do is mix 1 part dawn dish washing liquid and 2 parts hydrogen peroxide together and pour on stain and watch it do its magic. Well you all know me, I never do what the directions say :)  (***This mix was intended for stains on clothing, but I wanted to try it on the floor, it did not bleach the color.  it just cleaned it.***) I didn't change much, except instead of pouring the mix on the stain I put it in a spray bottle I got at Dollar General and sprayed it on the spots on the carpet and then I scrubbed it with a small scrub brush... Some of you may not believe this
